Glasgow Harvest

Hidden Gardens, Glasgow

28th August 2010

GLASGOW HARVEST
A Celebration of Urban Farming

On Saturday the 28th August 2010, Glasgow will hold its first Harvest and NVA want you to join in. Glasgow Harvest will celebrate the social gardening movement and encourage and applaud the city’s growers. Glasgow Harvest will be Glasgow’s biggest open air home-grown meal. Harvest is an opportunity to share knowledge and produce and have a great day out.

If you are already a grower, whether on a windowsill or in an allotment, come along and share food that you have prepared, at our Glasgow Harvest 2010 open air meal.

If you want to grow but don’t know how, get involved in the run up to Harvest and we’ll tell you how to get your hands dirty, turn your fingers green and get growing!

2010: The Summer Of Growing

Ways you can get involved…

Share & Dine

Bring something you’ve grown to Harvest to share with your fellow growers. We’ll provide the receptacles and the entertainment - you bring the food. Share and Dine will involve Vegetarian food only. Keep an eye on this page for full details of the day.

In the meantime, if you’d like to be first to receive any information you can subscribe to our newsletter HERE and tick the appropriate box. You can also tell us you’d like to attend on our Facebook page HERE.

Grow Your Own

We’ve given away 100 chard, courgette and potato plants this summer. In return, our growers are taking pictures of their plants as they grow and will be uploading them to our Grow Your Own Flickr album HERE. They’ll also be sharing their experiences in our Facebook discussions HERE

The Creative Container Challenge

Original and unique growing containers can be entered into our Creative Container Challenge to win a cash prize. Take up the challenge and grow something in an unusual object, or grow something in a unique plant pot you have decorated yourself. It’s up to you. All you have to do is bring your creation with your growing produce to Harvest on the 28th August and keep your fingers crossed. The best containers will win £50.

Let us know if you’re intending to enter this competition by signing up to our newsletter HERE and tick the appropriate box.

The Jam Wall

Make a jar of jam and bring it to Harvest to add to our Jam Wall. The Harvest Jam Wall will be added to throughout the day and will be a communally created sculptural installation, imagine a 3D pantone colour chart or paint colour chart… (see an example of a traditiional panone chart HERE).

Do you want to make Jam need to get your hands on some locally-grown fruit?

Or have you have a bumper fruit harvest and want to pass it on to other Jam makers?

Let us help you to find your perfect partner! Join in the ‘Jam Dating Agency’ discussion on our Facebook page HERE and tell us what you’re offering in less than a paragraph.

Have you got a favourite Jam recipe you’d like to share with your fellow growers? Post a note or a link in our Facebook discussion HERE.

Education programme

Running concurrently with Glasgow Harvest is the Double Rubble Chip Challenge, a great new project that provides schools with materials and support to grow their own potatoes. The potatoes grown will be brought to Glasgow Harvest and made into chips for all to enjoy.

NVA are also collaborating with Central Station / Iso in a pilot project called Co-Create which is part of GLOW, the world’s first national intranet for education. Our project will involve a series of artist-delivered workshops in schools around horticultural themes and social action.
