The Silent Twins
The Old Partick Police Station, Glasgow
1994
Staged in a deserted Victorian prison, this was the only small-scale work ever undertaken by the company. A powerful and disturbing exploration of the true story of mute identical black twins Jane and Jennifer Gibbons who spent many years in institutions, including Broadmoor, as a result of their inability to communicate with the outside world. Played by London rappers The Courtney Twins (not silent!), with octophonic soundscape by ambient composer M.P. Lancaster, the performance cast a lingering shadow over many who saw it.
“A riveting work” (The List)
“Don’t expect answers, just mind stirring questions” (The Herald)
