Stormy Waters will be the largest, most exciting and innovative live event taking
place in Britain in 1995. NVA are working with digital artists, electronic musicians,
designers, film-makers, drummers, performers, computer and marine technologists.

Stormy Waters is being staged at the breathtaking Meadowside Granary - the largest brick
building in Scotland - which overlooks the River Clyde to Kvaerner Govan Shipyards - the
only working yard in the upper reaches of the river.

The show explores a city simultaneously trapped by its past and willing to face its
future. Using huge images, soundscapes, text and movement the entire site is activated. The
old Glasgow rooted in huge civic buildings, nostalgia and class hierarchies is atomised -
we can see the ancient institutions of Great Britain imploding to reveal new possibilities
for a digital democracy.... using The Internet. Artists from five continents will beam
re-manipulated images from the show direct to the site computers which will then translate
the images onto large screens. The results can be viewed through a live
broadcast back out over The Internet, thus launching Glasgow's position as City of
Architecture and Design 1999.
