stories from french guiana

inside - The fact of getting on the Internet, to be in contact with people all around the world. I mean I logged unbeknownst to me, 55 hours of surf time last month, no wonder my wife was complaining but being isolated here in French Guiana and not liking letter writing since I got married eleven years ago, Internet inspires in a way nothing has inspired me for a long time.
outside - Actually two local events inspired me, the first negative, which was the riots in Cayenne in November, students, independentits, the recent shooting of a teenager by another, things unheard of in this part of the world. The second, to counterbalance it, was a Concert for Harmony between Peoples, held on 29 December in Cayenne, organized by a dynamic American music teacher from St Louis, Missouri, and at which many of the different races and ethnic groups of French Guiana were presented. Wonderfully inspirational.
future - Well, believing that the New World Order in the process of being built while the old World Order is crumbling around us, I see immediate chaos but as soon as there is political unity, in a very short time, probably mostly because the international economic, social and political chaos will be beyond the scope of mere nations, I think with the Vision of a United Mankind, "The earth is but one counry and mankind its citizens" as proclaimed by Baha'u'llah, people will start to put their efforts into bettering the lot of their fellow man, seeking Justice for the downtrodden and bettering the economic situation of those presently excluded from economic well-being. So in a hundred years, I think we'll have made some steps in that direction.
